Everything about this purchase was fine, except... the captions of the illustrations are (for some reason) cut off. I have a "complete" edition (thankfully), so I can "fill in those blanks," but for someone without that luxury, it's cause for a demerit (loss of a star).Product details

Interesting but the guy was crazy! If you are interested in the wilderness it is worth considering.
Very entertaining. Like an original version of the current TV show.
Great book up through about 75% and then it begins to plod along.
This is one person's account of his experiment in living in the wilderness of Maine. He started his adventure with nothing but his mind and naked body to challenge himself with survival. The book was published in 1910.
In his own words, the author details how he ate, dressed himself, built shelter. The story is especially interesting to us because most of his experiences took place in the King & Bartlett area of western Maine where my husband (a Master Maine Guide) has guided clients, and where we personally have hunted and fished. This area has changed very little in the last hundred years.
The version is very easy to read - I wish we could enlarge some of the photographs a bit to see more detail. We'd love to have a paper copy of the book, but reviews show the paper version to be "copies" of poor quality. The version is well done, and I suspect an original edition would be hard to find and cost a fortune.
's price of $3.97 for wireless delivery makes this a great "read" for a great price!
